This Blog is for the most part the story of the family history of our own branch of the Eldridge family. The investigation of the ancestors of Hetty Jane Owen, the wife of Charles Albert Eldridge is now complete, and the tale has resumed with an examination of the line of Charles Albert Eldridge.

Brothers and Sisters of Richard Wombwell
The Red Lion at the edge of Lordship Road, Stoke Newington, 1890. Photo by Bob Osborn on Flickr.
Given that the parents of Richard Wombwell were indeed Richard Wombwell and Elizabeth Negus, then his brothers and sisters, and the 3rd great uncles and aunts of Hetty Jane Owen would have been:
i. John Wombwell (1758-????)
ii. James Wombwell (1761-1798)
iii. Elizabeth Wombwell (1763-????)
iv. William Wombwell (1765-????)
v. Mary Wombwell (1768-????)
vi. Dorcas Wombwell (1770-????)
Richard himself was the oldest child, born in 1757. From what is known of these children, his likely siblings, the following possibilities have been gleaned from various sources on the web:
James Wombwell was born in Arkesden and married Hannah Kemp in Clavering in 1788. They had five children, who would have been first cousins x3 removed of Hetty Jane Owen.
i. James Wombwell (1788–1856). He married a Susanna, and they had a son, Charles. The family moved to Hertfordshire.
ii. Ann Wombwell (1791–1875) was both born and died in Clavering.
iii. Charles Wombwell (1793–1861). He married a Jane, and they had three children, William, John, and Charles. This branch seems to have stayed in the Essex and Suffolk area.
iv. Susan Wombwell (1794–????)
v. John Wombwell (1796–1851)
Dorcas Wombwell married Thomas Gladwin in Elmdon, Essex in 1790, and they had a son, Thomas Wombwell, born the same year.
