David
Samuel Owen (1887-1959). He was born in
Llanrhydd. He went to University College Bangor, and then to
Aberystwyth Theological College. He started preaching at Bethlehem Chapel in
1905, was ordained in 1913 and became a minister in Llanelli from 1913 to
1915 when he was asked to go down to London to oversee the Welsh Calvinist
Methodist population at Jewin Chapel.
The chapel was destroyed in a German bombing raid in the Second World
War but subsequently rebuilt. He is said to have been a ‘powerful and popular
preacher’, who remained in great demand in North Wales, and was also involved
with the National Eisteddfod. He married Gracy Jones and they had five
children. He is buried in Colwyn Bay. (See the Dictionary of Welsh
Biography). No records of the children are available.
